You Matter: Starting the Conversation About Suicide Prevention
Sometimes emotional pain isn’t visible.
A person may continue working, parenting, attending school, laughing with friends, or showing up for others while privately struggling.
That’s why conversations about suicide prevention matter.
Changes such as withdrawing from others, expressing hopelessness, giving away important belongings, dramatic mood changes, increased substance use, or talking about being a burden should be taken seriously.
Checking on someone does not require having the perfect words.
A simple “I’ve noticed you haven’t seemed like yourself lately. How are you really doing?” can open an important conversation.
If someone expresses thoughts of suicide or immediate danger, seek emergency or crisis support right away.
Flourish Reminder: Checking in can make a difference. Your presence, compassion, and willingness to listen matter.
